WHY TRAVEL LIKE THE SILKROADERS?
We are people who want to experience a country the way it is. People who are willing to interact with the locals and who thus are prepared for adventure travel through the country. Therefore, we try to travel overland as much as possible. Ofcourse sightseeing is an important ascpect of travel, but for us lifeseeing is equally important: the people with their habits and customs and the nature. Therefore, we choose to travel, eat and sleep as the locals do. This might be a little bit uncomfortable sometimes, but with an open mind and a sense of flexibility our travels always work out fine. After all, that's the stuff adventures are made of!

ARE YOU A TRAVEL AGENT?
We do not organize any trips other than our private ones. However, we are happy to provide our knowledge about the areas that are traversed by the Silkroad. This is a non-profit website. We do not receive any bonuses by the tour operators we recommend. Thus, we cannot answer any questions concerning your trip.

WHAT COMFORT OF TRAVEL DO THE SILKROADERS PREFER?
We always try use the best possible comfort while travelling. However, please, keep in mind that many small and interesting places on the itineraries of our tours are completely isolated from trains or planes and can only be reached by a long bus or jeep journey. Furthermore, we believe that travelling overland offers the best opportunites to meet the locals close up. A bus ride or a jeep journey in those areas is very tiresome. You spend a lot of time on a tight fitting seat and the streets usually are not up to Western standards. Those of you, however, who manage to brave the way are rewarded with visits to unique places set in truly breathtaking scenery that have not seen many tourists yet. In this case comfort is opposed to adventure. We do not travel very comfortable, but very adventurous.

WHAT KIND OF ACCOMODATION DO YOU CHOOSE?
The accomodations we choose represent the character of our tours. We usually pick up small, pleasant and clean hotels with a friendly atmosphere and centrally located. The rooms will usually be air conditioned or have a fan. In the mountains we either stay in a tent or find accomodation in Yurt camps.

CAN I ORGANIZE THE TRIP ON MY OWN?
You can organize almost all our trips by yourself. Providing you have a lot of time to spare for research and inquiries. Providing also, that you have the extensive knowledge that Silkroaders can boast. However, do not be disappointed if you find out eventually, that you did not save more than a few dollars by doing everything on your own.

WHY DON'T YOU TRAVEL TO THE BAHAMAS?
Both can be unforgetable experiences: a four week trip along the Silk Road or a two week package holiday on The Bahamas. Surprising that might be, but people like to spend their long awaited vacation the way they want. We prefer to be travellers and visitors rather tourists and consumers. Our trips are more associated to "Livingstone and Stanley" than to "Sun Deckers". Not every faucet yields water and not every switch turns on the light. Complaints of that sort do not impress anybody and rarely help. If you can stay relaxed upon confrontation with everday local life - without guarantees and fixed schedules - then you will love our way of adventure travelling in the true sense. Adventure travellers need to be flexible, respectful and have a good sense of humour and sometimes be physically fit. If you organize a trip the way we do, you should expect to have an adventurous holiday and are aware that you are taking a risk. If you come to the conclusion, that this kind of travel does not match your idea of a relaxed holiday, then you should decide to go to The Bahamas.
